November, 2002

1. My favorite band these days (Nov. '02) is the British pop band XTC. The Wu's sound engineer Andy Frey, turned me on to them one night while he subjected me to his favorite records.
Sidenote: my favorite musician is Derek Trucks although I don't believe he is human so that may rule him out.

2. My favorite musical performance is one that I did not attend but viewed on VH1. It was, all of bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd performing outside

3. My favorite instrument (hey, I didn't pick the questions... actually I feel I have a pretty definitive answer here) is the pedal steel guitar. Perhaps but I've heard it used in Jazz (check out David Phillips on Charlie Hunter's Bing, Bing, Bing album) folk (Jerry Garcia on Crosby, Stills, and Nash's Teach Your Children Well) and of course my local band favorite Pedal Mike from the White Iron Band. Some of my alltime favorite players are Neil Flanz, Junior Brown (not just the guit-steel but the pedal steel), Uncle Jerry, Speedy West, oh there are so many greats. Check out the album Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels Live 1973.

4. My favorite thing about touring is being away from home. My least favorite thing: same answer.

5. My favorite off-day activity (while on the road) is flirting with married women at the Laundromat while destenching my delicates. Also shopping thrift shops.

6. The band I would most like to sit in with? I've had the chance to sit in with Yonder Mountain String Band so I'll have to move on to my second choice. Galactic, I think. Their grooves are gospel. I'd love to throw my spice into their Gumbo

7. The musician I would most like to have sit in with the Wu. So many of my favorites have: Dean McGraw, Paul Barrere, Derek Trucks, Jeff Austin (and the rest of the boys at the Skyline Ampitheatre in Chicago), Merl Saunders, Warren Boes, Stu Allen, Steve Davern, Sam Bush, I'm digressing, sorry. But I think having Bob Weir on stage to sing Jack Straw would burst my bubble.

8. My favorite thing about Spring Reverb is Al's Hammond organ work. Soulful and flawless, not a bad combo!

9. What makes Spring Reverb different from other records? Continuity, texture, direction (thanks, Bill). It’s meaty!!!

10. Why am I so hairy? I believe that, when pregnant, my mother handles caplets of Propecia despite doctors’ warnings.
