1. Favorite band/musician
Led Zep and Sabbath- Aside from the obvious reasons of their own merits (they kick ass), they provided the soundtrack for my youth. That aside, both bands started with a vision and went on to build better than they knew.
2. Favorite show/song
1) Megadeth at the Cat House in LA, Nov '91 (secret gig, they played under the name "Vic & The Rattleheads") I was 18 years old, they were my favorite band at the time and they had just released my favorite album at the time (Rust In Peace). My music theory teacher, Steve Bailey at Musician's Institute in Hollywood tipped me off about the gig before noon. I was there, first in line at an empty club with a bottle of vodka, a gallon of grapefruit juice, and a bag of ice before 1:00 pm. Met the band, got a set list, autographs and watched the show two feet from the band. No security! Of course, the best song was "Set The World Afire"
3. Favorite instrument
Phil Kubicki Ex-Factor basses, Hartke amplifiers, but not the speaker cabs. They have no midrange. Right now I just use an old 4x10 GK cab with Eminence 350 watt (3.5" voice coils) speakers. It's the closest thing to John Paul Jones or Jon Entwhistle I can find.P.S.: Boss effects work better than the others...
4. Favorite thing about touring and least favorite thing about touring.
Playing good shows- The ones where we start a song and more people then I would think cheer because they know the song. The mild surprise that come when I find that somebody actually likes the stuff we play. Also, I love the tour bus. satellite TV, unlimited beer, smoking section, tons of time to read. What's not to love?
The worst is crappy clubs with cheap promoters, a shitty staff who couldn't care less, that trades professionalism for pessimism. Above and beyond that, the worst part of touring is those goddamn back-breaking, colon-compacting vans we own. I HATE THEM, I HATE THEM, I HATE THEM.
5. Favorite day off activity
If I am so lucky, getting a tan, reading, beer, Vikings football (in any order)
6. Band you'd most like to sit in with
All Mighty Senators or Mr. Bungle
7. Musicians/artists you'd most like to sit in with the Wu.
Vince from Leftover Salmon, Jeff Austin from Yonder Mountain, Al from moe., Warren Haynes, Dweezil Zappa, Ozzy!
8. Favorite thing about "Spring Reverb".
The sound of the instruments, Southern Energy, Bird, Shoot the Moon.
9. What makes "Spring Reverb" different than previous records?
What is the same? It sounds like a real band, not another dippy jam band recording studio versions of their favorite live songs. Besides that, it was planned, practiced and executed with a specific vision in mind, and it sounds like it. (At least compared to Folktales.)
